Not Broken, Just Broke

Back on 20th October, I posted an entry here referring to my broken house, my broken car and mused over whether I could be broken too.

By way of update, garage number one was unable to fix my car and in desperation I took it to the specialists at garage number two. They assure me they know what's wrong and a day's minor surgery should have Miss Scarlet back on the road again. Of course bad news followed the good in the form of the quotation.

I'm not yet broken, but I shall be broke!

I can hardly believe it but we actually own three old cars!
Two in France because we live out in the sticks, any public transport is more than half an hour's walk away and very limited. Having just one car seemed too risky not to mention a nightmare for co-ordinating our activities. Thinking it's unlikely that both would be out of action at the same time having two seemed the only way to go, although second hand cars are ridiculously expensive in France. We wonder if that's because most French people out in the countryside don't change their cars that often and more likely run them until they give up completely. Most houses seem have more land than in the UK and it's not unusual to see several ancient cars gradually rusting away with trees growing out of the roof parked round the back of a barn!
We decided to leave the elderly Peugeot in the UK as a run around for when we're there although we do use our bus passes quite a bit. It's hanging on and we wonder what we will do when it finally pops its clogs!

Unfortunately old cars are like old age, they just creep up on you.
